Architectural Digest PL An English residence near Warsaw
The dream of the owners, a Polish-English couple, was to feel at home in a new place in Poland. It was therefore necessary to look for features of English residences that would fit into the landscape near Warsaw. The Cotswolds, which is particularly close to the owners, and the timeless beauty of the Georgian residence became an inspiration for architect Kinga Baumann. The house is located near Warsaw. The architecture of the residence refers to the classic and restrained style of the Georgian era, as well as the Cotswolds region, which is particularly close to the owners. The building’s proportions attract attention. Another distinguishing feature are beautiful wooden sash windows. The windows’ design works great in the windy british climate. Lower window sills allow to sit down with a book. Low window sills gained popularity in the Georgian era, when their practical aspect was appreciated – it was the place where daylight could be enjoyed for the longest time. Their beauty cannot be denied either. A modernized version of historic details from the Georgian era are all architectural elements designed and made to order – porch columns, stone window frames, square gutters at the porch and a conservatory. The whole is complemented by a landscape design with natural paths and fine graphite cubes, a fence and a classic entrance gate, but without being overly ornate. The highest quality, balanced and non-flashy materials are also the main distinguishing features of these interiors. Everything was designed and made as an individual project. Beige tiles with uneven edges are reminiscent of Cotswold limestone floors. The beauty of wooden stairs attracts attention – all elements, balusters, nosings, are refined to perfection. Architect Kinga Baumann decided to use the Scottish tartan motif. The walls were painted in this pattern and it is also a leitmotif in fabrics. Pure linens, wools and cashmeres dominate here. Another reference to the Scottish tradition are thistles. Serious and refined, yet cozy, the interior captivates with the beauty of classic details and exudes refined harmony.
